Mr. McMahon, who grew up in the District of Columbia and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, has been with the Miller & Long Companies since 1963, when he worked as a laborer and engineer’s aide during summers while attending college. After graduating from the University of Florida, with a Bachelor degree in Building Construction, he worked in the field as a chief engineer before moving into the office to assume the responsibilities of estimating. He became Chief Estimator in 1969 and was elected to Vice President in 1972. In 1977, at the age of 36, he was named President of the Miller & Long Companies, and his title changed to Chairman in 1991.
Mr. McMahon is a past president of the Metropolitan Washington Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). In 1990, the National Chapter of ABC chose Mr. McMahon to receive the second annual Ted C. Kennedy Contractor of the Year Award, and in 2001, he was recognized as their Grassroots Member of the Year award winner. In 2002, the National Chapter also presented him with the Eagle Award, its highest honor, recognizing his outstanding contributions and leadership in the association. In 2004, D.C. Metropolitan Subcontractors Association presented Mr. McMahon its Pinnacle Award for lifetime achievement in the construction trade.
Mr. McMahon has been involved in the planning and construction of numerous community projects, such as the stadium at the Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Maryland, the Performing Arts Center known as the Barns at Franklin Park in Loudoun County, Virginia, and The Bellevue Home Buying Housing Counseling Resource Center & Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency Computer Learning Lab in Anacostia. Mr. McMahon served on the Board of Trustees for West Nottingham Academy in Colora, Maryland. He served on the Board of Trustees for Landon School and was the parents’ chairman for annual giving and the capital campaign. He also served on the Board of Trustees for St. Andrew’s Episcopal School. Mr. McMahon is presently serving as Chairman on the capital Campaign Steering Committee for Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. NICK PALEOLOGOS, VICE CHAIRMAN
Nicholas G. Paleologos was born in 1942 and graduated from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1969 earning his degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Paleologos started working for Miller & Long in 1959 as a laborer and advanced through the ranks to the positions of Project Superintendent, Roaming Superintendent, Vice President, Executive Vice President and President.
Now Chief Operations Officer for the company, Mr. Paleologos has overseen more than $1 billion of concrete construction. He has supervised such technically challenging projects as the thirty-story Radisson Mark Plaza Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, the tallest slip formed building in the Washington, D.C. area; the Gallery at Harbor Place, a mega structure in Baltimore, Maryland containing in one city block square a thirty-story office tower, a Stouffer Hotel and a ten-story atrium shopping mall requiring extensive high framing and complex use of scaffolding; and the Center for Innovative Technology, a high-rise office building in Herndon, Virginia in the shape of an inverted pyramid which was built for the Virginia Innovative Technology Authority.
Mr. Paleologos is a past director of the Associated Builders and Contractors. He is a member of the Washington Building Congress, the American Concrete Institute and a past member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is also a member of the Presidents Club for the University of Maryland and a member of the National Advisory Council for the School of Engineering at George Washington University.
