BRETT McMAHON

Chairman and CEO

Brett McMahon drives the strategic direction and development of the company with an unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional services to customers and developing a team of more than 1,500 skilled professionals. Under Mr. McMahon’s leadership during the past decade, Miller & Long has won more than 30 industry awards for its expertise in commercial construction, including national awards from American Concrete Institute (ACI) and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).

Mr. McMahon has over 30 years of experience in the industry. He first worked at Miller & Long in his early teens sweeping and organizing at the yard. He then worked on various projects as an engineer’s aide, layout engineer, estimator, and project manager. In 1996, he was named the division manager of the North Carolina office. Over the years, he earned a series of promotions, eventually becoming vice president of business development and ultimately the CEO of Miller & Long Co., Inc., in 2017.

JOHN PALEOLOGOS

Vice Chairman and COO

John Paleologos is responsible for all field operations, which includes overseeing the coordination of the project field staff, all subcontractors, and field construction activities. Mr. Paleologos focuses on developing solutions that enable quality service and timely delivery. He also facilitates skills training across multiple teams of tradespeople to ensure that customers receive unparalleled service, support, and performance from each Miller & Long team member.

More than 25 years ago, Mr. Paleologos started his construction career at Miller & Long, where he worked as a laborer, engineer, rodman, and carpenter. After three years, he moved to New York City to continue his career in construction, working as a carpenter and chief engineer at Interboro Concrete. In 2002, Mr. Paleologos moved back to Washington, D.C., to work for Clark Concrete as a superintendent before bringing his valuable experience back to Miller & Long in 2005.

Proficient in all aspects of concrete construction – including mild steel, reinforcing, post-tension, foundation work, and layout engineering – he rejoined Miller & Long as lead superintendent. He remained in this capacity for six years, completing multiple large-scale projects throughout the Metro D.C. area.

JOHN ANDERS

Executive Vice President

John Anders manages and oversees the Estimating, Preconstruction, and VDC Departments. He keeps cost controls and monitors contractual budgets versus final project cost. Mr. Anders also regularly reviews manpower and project schedules and develops forecasting of future project timelines/volumes.

He began his career at Miller & Long after high school in 1980 as a laborer at the Planning Research Corporation building in Tysons Corner, Virginia. He attended community college and the University of Maryland’s School of Civil Engineering until 1983 when he started to work full-time as a laborer. Over the next four years, Mr. Anders worked as an apprentice carpenter, timekeeper, engineer’s aide, and field engineer.

In 1986, Mr. Anders was given the opportunity to join the Estimating Department. There, with guidance from the leadership team in the main office, he developed his estimating skills. He became chief estimator in 1995, vice president of estimating in 1998, senior vice president in 2014, and executive vice president in 2019.

Also in 2019, Mr. Anders was invited to take an ownership role and to continue Miller & Long’s customer-focused leadership in the Washington, D.C., area construction market.

Since joining the Estimating Department in 1987, Mr. Anders has managed more than 1,000 projects and over $7B in awards.

PAUL KRAVIC

CFO

Paul Kravic leads the finance team at Miller & Long and partners with other leaders in operations, risk management, employee benefits, and information technology to improve efficiency and the satisfaction of internal and external customers.

Mr. Kravic is a financial professional with over 20 years of financial leadership experience in the construction and real estate industries. He brings experience in the areas of accounting, finance, financial planning/budgeting and analysis, cash planning/treasury management, due diligence, and tax/estate planning. He is a trusted business advisor who has built solid relationships with company ownership and operational leaders, internal team members, and external stakeholders in both closely held and public company environments, providing relevant insights that improve business performance.

Mr. Kravic started his career in public accounting at one of the largest firms in the area, servicing the firm’s construction industry customers for six years. Prior to joining Miller & Long in 2017, he served in various financial roles at one of the area’s largest heavy-civil/specialty contractors for 15 years.

JIM MEERS

Chief Administrative Officer

Jim Meers is responsible for implementation and management of job-cost control systems and methodologies. He assists in loss-control and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Working closely with the chief financial officer and other operations officers, Mr. Meers manages the budgeting processes for all departments; participates in executive decision making regarding company finances; maintains productive working relations with members of the executive and management teams; and provides leadership with respect to implementation of new information technology. Additionally, he generates monthly job cost numbers for all active jobs and presents the monthly forecast numbers to both the owners and field leadership team.

OTTO GIRR, SPHR

Senior Vice President, Human Resources

As senior vice president of Human Resources, Otto Girr is responsible for managing a six-person department which oversees 1,000+ employees. He manages the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and selection to onboarding through retention. He oversees benefits and employee relations.

Mr. Girr ensures company compliance with HR-related requirements, including EEOC compliance, U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) audits, apprenticeship training, E-Verify and I-9 compliance, and first source compliance.

He has over 20 years of experience in Human Resources, specifically in the construction industry. He joined Miller & Long in 1999 and was promoted to VP of HR in 2012.

DEBORAH CARR, SCLA

Vice President, Insurance

As vice president of insurance, Deborah Carr oversees the Insurance Department at Miller & Long, with a focus on the execution of claims management and administration of compliance. In addition, she manages technical claim operations functions for workers compensation, property and casualty, automobile, general liability, and health and welfare plan design. She manages self-administered, third-party administered, and fully insured liaison benefit plans that may include medical, dental, vision, prescription, COBRA, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending, and Medigap insurance.

Ms. Carr’s experience at Miller & Long began more than 20 years ago when she was hired as a claim manager. In 2008, she was promoted to vice president. Throughout her career, Ms. Carr earned industry respect for her extensive expertise in insurance claims, organizational transition, and vendor and litigation management.

ANDREW DOLAN

Vice President, Preconstruction

Andrew Dolan manages Miller & Long’s Preconstruction Department. Working alongside the Estimating, Engineering, and Operations Departments, he develops accurate project budgets, cost analyses, schedules, and concrete logistics plans for customers.

Mr. Dolan has over 25 years of experience in the commercial construction industry. His comprehensive knowledge and understanding of today’s commercial construction industry is built from extensive field, design-build, estimating, project management, and preconstruction experience. Mr. Dolan began his career at Miller & Long as an estimator in 1997 after working for various firms in the environmental and design-build industries.

RAYLENE DUFRESNE

Vice President, IT Services

Raylene Dufresne leads the Miller & Long Information Technology Department. She has spearheaded several key initiatives, including transitioning the company to a cloud-based processing system for increased transparency and reduced costs. The system is used for purchase order tracking, job site dailys, inventory, and crane schedules. Ms. Dufresne also implemented the company’s first IT ticketing system and she initiated the use of GPS technology to track fleet location and submit automatic mileage reports. In addition, she oversaw the company’s migration to Office 365, the implementation of Teams and OneDrive, as well as the upgrade of our framework. As a result of her programs — which mandated security compliance training, multi-factor authentication, the use of complex passwords, and monitoring of security risks on all devices – the company’s IT security risk has been reduced by 70%.

Ms. Dufresne has over 21 years of experience in information technology, including designing and facilitating training programs.

KEITH FULTZ

Vice President, Construction

Keith Fultz brings nearly 35 years of commercial construction experience to every project at Miller & Long.

He started his career with Miller & Long as an apprentice engineer, then quickly advanced to project engineer, and later, to chief engineer. Mr. Fultz earned the title of superintendent in 2000 and in 2015 was promoted to general superintendent where he oversaw a portion of the company’s projects. By 2016, he was promoted to vice president of construction.

He has managed over $711M in contracts in his roles as superintendent and vice president.

CHRIS GRANT

Vice President, Construction

Chris Grant has worked at Miller & Long for more than 30 years. He began as an apprentice engineer and became chief engineer in 1992. Then, he was trained as an assistant superintendent and earned the title of superintendent in 2005. Next, he moved into project management and served as senior project manager for several years. In 2015, he was named vice president of construction.

Over the course of Mr. Grant’s career, he has managed over $1B in contracts.

MIKE LEHKER, AIA

Vice President, Virtual Design and Construction

Mike Lehker is responsible for Miller & Long’s Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Department, managing a six-member team in the development and delivery of 3D and 4D Building Information Modeling (BIM) representations.

Working hand-in-hand with the estimating, project management, logistics, and construction teams, Mr. Lehker and his team reduce project costs and improve efficiency for customers.

With a breadth of experience in the commercial building industry, he brings more than 20 years of valuable experience to his current role. Mr. Lehker first worked at Miller & Long for seven years in the 2000s as a project manager. He left the company to pursue architecture experience and spent 10 years working in that capacity at various prestigious firms. In 2016, he was invited back to Miller & Long to spearhead the VDC group, and, in 2021, he was promoted to vice president of the department.

JEFF MALONE, LEEP AP

Vice President, Estimating

As vice president of estimating, Jeff Malone is responsible for managing the Estimating Department, determining project scopes of work, reviewing estimates for accuracy and completeness, maintaining current pricing databases, creating project budgets, and tracking job progress against the budget. He also cultivates and maintains customer, supplier, and subcontractor relationships.

In 2000, Mr. Malone started at Miller & Long as an estimator. He was promoted to chief estimator in 2013. In 2021, he earned a promotion to vice president of estimating.

JIM MARTINOSKI

Vice President, Logistics

Jim Martinoski is responsible for Miller & Long’s logistics organization. He manages the company’s Jack Miller Yard operations in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and the asset allocations from that facility, including tower cranes, mobile cranes, truck pumps, placing booms, batch plants, mixer trucks, and formwork/shoring.

Working closely with field operations, Mr. Martinoski and his team ensure all necessary equipment is readily available. He also works with the estimating, project management, and office staff to align on project approaches and improve efficiency for customers. Additionally, he leads the innovation and sustainability programs, including the production of advanced mix designs and shotcrete operations.

Mr. Martinoski has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry, bringing a broad perspective and expertise that is especially valuable in his current role. In the 2000s, he spent 10 years working as superintendent and project manager for Clark Construction. He then worked on new-build nuclear power plants in the 2010s before joining Miller & Long in 2018.

BRIAN MONCAK

Vice President, Estimating

As vice president of estimating, Brian Moncak manages the Estimating Department, determining project scope of work, reviewing estimates for accuracy and completeness, maintaining current pricing databases, creating project budgets, and tracking job progress against the budget. He also cultivates and maintains customer, supplier, and subcontractor relationships.

Mr. Moncak’s experience at Miller & Long began more than 20 years ago when he was hired as a project estimator in 1998. He gained additional field experience in 2009 when he transitioned to the role of project manager for two years before returning to estimating as a senior estimator. Since then, he has progressed into the role of chief estimator and, in 2021, was promoted to vice president.

FRANK TRUJILLO, MS, CSP

Vice President, Safety

Frank Trujillo provides strategic oversight of Miller & Long’s safety initiatives, including a $1M company-wide safety training program. He supervises a team of 30 and manages a budget of $3M, in addition to $2M in consumable and non-consumable assets. He also serves as a liaison with federal and state regulatory agencies to advise and testify on proposed laws and regulations affecting the industry.

Mr. Trujillo began his career at Miller & Long in 2009 as North Carolina’s regional safety director. In this role, he conducted site audits and safety training for 700+ employees. Then, in 2011, he was promoted to corporate safety director, where he oversaw the company-wide safety training program. Mr. Trujillo managed a comprehensive risk management approach to build company-wide engagement in risk assessment and control, to mitigate risk exposure. He was promoted to vice president of safety and health in 2014.

In all, Mr. Trujillo has been in the construction safety field for nearly 20 years. He is currently a board member of the Chesapeake Region Safety Council and is a member of various committees with Associated Builders and Contractors, the American Society of Safety Engineers, and the American National Standards Institute.

ANN VASSALLO

Vice President, Accounting

Ann Vassallo leads the Payroll and Accounts Payable Departments, where compliance, accuracy, and on-time processing are paramount. She managed the conversion of the accounts payable team into a paperless processing and approval flow, enabling easy access for Miller & Long’s field supervisors, regardless of their physical location. In addition, Ms. Vassallo oversees the registration and permitting of the entire corporate fleet – and previously managed the company’s transition to a web-based software for vehicle information, inspection, and servicing.

Years as a Maryland paramedic allowed her the opportunity to train dozens of Miller & Long employees in CPR and First Aid, a standard that our Safety Department continues today. In all, Ms. Vassallo has been with the company for more than 36 years working across the various accounting services departments.
