Miller & Long proudly supports numerous community initiatives and youth programs from our headquarters in Washington, DC.
Under former Chairman John McMahon’s leadership, Miller & Long, the JOBS Coalition, and eight construction and commercial real estate development firms joined together to establish the nonprofit DC Students Construction Trades Foundation in 2003. They worked with school, community and elected officials to launch the Academy of Construction and Design in 2005, serving high school students in the District of Columbia.
Today, the Academy of Construction and Design continues to encourage students, including at-risk youth, to stay in school and graduate with math, reading and science skills and pre-apprenticeship certifications. Academy curriculum has grown to include hands-on building projects ranging from school garden infrastructure to tiny house construction and single-family homebuilding. Graduates enter industry jobs and college degree programs for architecture, engineering, construction management and other fields.
