Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships and Training Opportunities

At Miller & Long, we continually build the skills of today’s workers and tomorrow’s leaders. Our training program is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). To date, we have graduated more than 100 students from the program. Many of those men and women have continued their careers at Miller & Long.

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

For people who are considering a job in construction but are not quite ready for the longer commitment of an apprenticeship, we offer a six-week pre-apprenticeship program that provides basic construction work readiness skills.

Weekly classroom instruction includes:

  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10
  • Operation of Hand and Power Tools
  • Construction Math
  • Measuring and Cutting
  • Personal Financial Basics
  • Communication Skills
  • Anger and Stress Management
  • Life Skills

Apprenticeship Program

For this hands-on learning program, you do not need a high school diploma or college degree. Our paid apprentices learn on the job site from our foremen instructors who have decades of experience. While at the construction site, you will have an experienced Miller & Long employee alongside you so you can build knowledge and skills that last.
Some of the classes are at the Jack Miller Yard, so you can see the prefabrication shop in action where structures, columns, walls, and other elements are designed and built. The yard also offers the time and space to ask questions about an ongoing project without the interruptions of a busy job site.

The three- to four-year program, accredited by NCCER and approved by the Maryland Department of Labor, gives students 144 hours of instruction over 52 weeks in one of four trades:

  • Operating Engineers
  • Concrete Form Builder/Form Setter
  • Concrete Finisher
  • Reinforcing Ironworker
