Reston Station OB1

Location: 1860 Wiehle Avenue, Reston, VA
Architect: Murphy/Jahn
Engineer: Thornton Tomasetti
General Contractor: James G. Davis Construction Corporation

Reston Station Office Building 1 is not your typical “cookie-cutter” office building.  The design was a product of a process by the owner initially involving proposals from 25 of the most prestigious architectural firms in the world.  The project is situated atop the previously constructed eight level parking deck podium of the Reston Station complex located on the Dulles Toll Road at the Wiehle Avenue exit.  The post-tension building rises 17 floors plus a roof above the podium slab, starting at 13,000 SF on level 2 (including a cutout for the building lobby).  Above level 2, the north and south faces of the building cantilever out by 2’-3” per level, increasing the building footprint at each floor towards the ultimate footprint at the roof of 30,000 SF.  This one-of-a-kind design, coupled with the exterior sloping architectural columns make this project a true standout.
